El Cafecito de la Aleman - concepts

A friend of mine recently opened a tiny cafe with his girlfriend in Merida Mexico, called El Cafecito de la Aleman. I wanted to help out by designing a logo and branding package for their new business.

Here was my first pass on logo ideas! I don't often design logos, so I'm pretty pleased at how these turned out! I like option 1 but I think option 3 - middle version - is my favorite. :)

Big Cats - Lions

Aaron Blaise had a sale on his tutorials recently, and I bought a few! One of which is all about drawing Big Cats. I took a lot of time studying horses, but not cats - or dogs for that matter. So here's my chance to brush up! The tutorials are a lot of fun. So far I've managed to cover lions. Here are some of my drawings while following along with Aaron!

Cafe Sketches - Summertime!

Since the weather has been so nice, I've been trying to do more cafe/bar sketches! They still don't look very good, but I'm hoping that in some... years... they will improve.

But there are fun human characters out there! That's for sure!

Pinups - San

made it to 500 likes! To honor this event, I drew this fun little pinup of San, with one of her wolf god pals, inspired by Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke. Yay! :D

Pinups - Candice

Here is a pinup caricature for Candice - who has a Facebook page called "Stories of an Unlikey Farmer". I did this pinup for her featuring her lovely donkey friend and some of her chickens.

And I designed this lovely banner for her page using the elements from her pinup!

Studio Technique - Facial Anatomy Class

I just had the pleasure of taking another course (this time a 3 day seminar) with Samantha Youssef at Studio Technique! I technically learnt all the facial muscles while at Sheridan, but as always, I learnt so much more while taking Sam's class!

I had a lot of fun! And I'll be looking forward to taking the next seminar that's on Animal Anatomy. I'm stoked for that!

Here are some exercises I did for the class. First is a step by step process in drawing a realistic expression, including drawing the skull, and all the muscles that are active. And finaly, we had to create a series of expressions with a character of our own design. As with all new drawing approaches, it will take some time to master and I can't help but feel that most of these are really stiff and awkward looking... But at least I had fun trying!

Animation - Espresso Machine Card

As a mini side project, I animated this card for my good friend George's birthday! :)

He's a fan of Espresso, so I animated this Fleischer Brothers rubber hose Espresso Machine in his honor! It was a little bit rushed, but I had a lot of fun! I think he liked it!
