Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! :D To celebrate, I'm going to post my digital painting project for our Photoshop class. I thought the theme was quite fitting!

I wish everybody lots of chocolate and love (or one or the other).

And here are my tonals for this project!

Storyboard - Catnipping Green

Here is a Storyboard I did for school. We were assigned a wacky song about Cat Heaven called "Catnipping Green" and as a team of 12 students we had to create a storyboard.

Each person got a verse. I was lucky last on my team, so I got to board the ending! The setting is Chicago in the 1930s. Our story was about a cat Jim Jones who gets crazy high on catnip, then wins big gambling, then gets smashed on milk and cream, then spends all his money on lady cat strippers... all the while taking "catnip". So here is the end of his adventures... we were not kind to him.

And here are my early storybeats, and character designs. In the end we chose one member of our team to design all the characters. But at the beginning of the project we all made suggestions. My cats were a lot fatter than what was chosen! :)

Animation - Halle the Robot

It's been a while - but here is a dip back into gaming! An awesome man, John Fraboni, is heading a super cool project in New Orleans, where he teaches kids how to code - and make games! It's called Operation Spark. And it's awesome. Check it out:

and feel free to like their facebook page!

They're currently working on a game feature their logo : Halle the robot. She is super cute! And I had an amazing time animating her! Can't wait to play the game!

Here she is, Halle in all her glory!

Here is some of the anims I got to work on. All done in good ol' Flash! :)

Painting - Blast from the past!

Since we'll be focusing on drawing horse-drawn stagecoaches in layout this semester, I thought I would dig up some of my old horse paintings from my childhood. One thing I did do a lot of was horse drawings! As I got older though, I started to rebel - to no longer be known only for drawing horses, so I started to branch out into portraiture and then illustration.

But some things you just don't forget. And I think now I've come to terms with my horsy past!

When I was around 12, I really wanted to horseback ride, but our family didn't have the funds for such an expensive hobby. So I started painting horses to sell, so that I could make money for lessons. Then, when I was 14, my family moved back to Poland, Bialystok, for a year... where I didn't go to school! Instead, I painted. Horses. And did a lot of horseback riding, because there it was dirt cheap.

So a blast from the past! My childhood oil paintings! :) Horsies! All oil on canvas!

This one is of Emanor, a very successful arabian stallion at the time - painted in 2001

Painted in Poland in 2000

2003 - my fascination with the Polish Husaria! :)

2002 - Proud Step! Another Arabian.

Studies in Creativity - Our Creative Genius

Next "log" for my Creativity course was in response to Elizabeth Gilbert's Ted talk: Your Elusive Creative Genius. Which you can see at this link.

Elizabeth Gilbert Ted Talk

She talks of the psychological release you get when perceiving your creative genius as outside of yourself. So here is a ULTRA quick animation done in flash of my creative genius, Dobby the House Elf, who's on handy to help me do a good job... and also handy to blame if my animation turns out shit.

A little still from my anim!

Caricatures - Pawel

Almost two years ago, Pawel, along with my family, helped me move cities from Montreal to Toronto. He drove the van for over 6 hours, he lugged furniture, only to take short smoking breaks, and was all in all amazingly supportive.... All he asked in return was his caricature. With a special request "not to be nice" about it...

And almost two years later... here it finaly is! :) Mariusz, his Dad, got a laugh out of it! I hope he doesn't kill me!
